Xavier pulverizes Uno in Tiong Lian Games

Xavier School picked up a pair of easy victories over the weekend in the Juniors Division of the 32nd Metro Manila Tiong Lian Basketball Association competitions to clinch the No. 2 seed in the seven-school competitions.

The Golden Stallions, who own a 4-1 record going into their final elimination-round assignment against winless Hope Christian (0-3) on Friday Feb. 1, made mincemeat of host Saint Jude Catholic School in registering a 95-58 win Friday night (Jan. 25) then pulverized Uno High School (3-2), 128-63, Saturday night (Jan. 26) for their fourth straight triumph after a heartbreaking season-opening 79-77 setback to defending champion and unbeaten Chiang Kai Shek (5-0).

Chiang Kai Shek maintains Tiong Lian Lead

Man-mountain Justin Chua collected 26 points, 19 rebounds and four blocks in just three quarters of action as reigning Juniors Division titlist Chiang Kai Shek improved its record to 4-0 with an easy 98-70 victory over erstwhile unblemished Uno High School Friday night (Jan. 25) in the 32nd Metro Manila Tiong Lian Basketball Association tournament at the Uno Gym.

In the opening game of a doubleheader, Xavier School downed host Saint Jude Catholic School, 95-58, to pick up its third win in four outings and secure a share of the No. 2 spot with Uno.

Xavier Pummels Grace Christian

The Gabriel and Jeric Show is back.

RP Youth candidates Gabriel Banal and Jeric Teng, who sat out last Friday’s game against St. Stephen’s High School due to a foot injury, combined for 61 points in leading Xavier School (2-1) to a masterful 104-57 triumph over winless Grace Christian High School (0-4) Wednesday night (Jan. 23) in the Juniors Division of the 32nd Metro Manila Tiong Lian Basketball Association competitions held at the Uno Gym.

Xavier Whips St. Stephen’s

The road to recovery for Xavier School in the Juniors Division of the 32nd Metro Manila Tiong Lian Basketball Association competitions began Friday night (Jan. 18).

The Golden Stallions, who dropped a heartbreaking 79-77 decision to reigning champion Chiang Kai Shek in their season opener, evened up their record at 1-1 with an 87-53 shellacking of winless St. Stephen’s High School (0-2) at the Father Rafael Cortina Sports Center in the Xavier campus along Greenhills, San Juan City.

Xavier loses Tiong Lian opener

In the opening-day games of the 32nd Metro Manila Tiong Lian Basketball Association competitions at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum last Saturday (Jan. 12), host St. Jude Catholic School beat Grace Christian High School, 55-50; Uno High School knocked off St. Stephen’s High School, 55-51; and defending champion Chiang Kai Shek overcame a 16-point deficit (39-23) early in the second quarter to edge out Xavier School, 79-77, in a preview of the finals.

The Golden Stallions’ fortunes fell apart after star Jeric Allen Teng, son of former PBA player Alvin Teng, suffered a sprain midway through the third quarter and had to be sidelined until the final five minutes of the payoff period.
