Regular Site: Chiang Kai Shek College
Host: Xavier School
Teams: Xavier School, Saint Jude Catholic School, Uno High School, Grace Christian College, Hope Christian High School, St. Stephen’s High School and Chiang Kai Shek College
Tournament Duration: Six Weeks
Three Divisions:
- Girls High School
- Boys, Aspirants (age 14 and under)
- Boys, Juniors (age 15 but no more than 19 by January 1, 2010)
Defending Champions:
- Girls High School – Chiang Kai Shek College (last two years)
- Boys, Aspirants – Xavier School (last seven years)
- Boys, Juniors – Xavier School (last two years)
Tournament Format:
- Single round-robin elimination round (six games each).
- All seven schools qualify for the playoffs.
- No. 1- and No. 2-ranked teams after the elimination round receive quarterfinal byes and are automatically seeded into the semifinals with a twice-to-beat advantage.
- In the wild-card game, No. 6 vs. No. 7 in a knockout game.
- In the quarterfinals, No. 6 vs. No. 7 winner will face No. 3-ranked team with No. 3-ranked team enjoying a twice-to-beat advantage.
- No. 4-ranked team will face No. 5-ranked team in the other quarterfinal pairing with the No. 4-ranked team enjoying a twice-to-beat advantage.
- In the semifinals, the match-ups are No. 1-ranked teamvs. the No. 4 vs. No. 5 winner and No. 2-ranked team vs. the No. 3 vs. (winner of No. 6 vs. No. 7) winner. Both No. 1 and No. 2 enjoy a twice-to-beat advantage in the semifinals.
- The semifinal winners will clash in a best-of-three championship series.

Jeron Teng (Xavier) – Son of former PBA player Alvin Teng and younger brother of Jeric Teng; Member of RP 3-on-3 team and member of RP Under-16 Team that place fourth in the 1st FIBA-Asia Under 16 Championship in Malaysia last year.
Jose Anton “Jett” Manuel (Xavier) – MVP of 2009 San Juan Inter-High School tournament topped by Xavier for a fourth consecutive year.
Kim Lo (St. Jude Catholic School) – Led Judenites to 2009 Metropolitan Amateur Sports Association (MASA) title over Hope Christian HS.
Isaac Lim (Uno) – Once scored 61 points in an Aspirants Division game against Chiang Kai Shek in 2007 as a 12-year-old, sixth-grader.
2009 Tiong Lian Results:
- Chiang Kai Shek beat Uno High School for Girls’ HS title.
- Xavier School beat St. Jude Catholic School, 2-0, for Juniors (Boys HS) title.
- Xavier School beat Chiang Kai Shek, 2-1, for Aspirants (Boys) title
Tiong Lian history:
- In the Juniors Division, the Chiang Kai Shek Blue Dragons own the most number of TL championships with 14 (1970, 1974, 1978-80, 1985, 1987-88, 1990-92, 1994-95 and 2007). Xavier School (1972, 1998, 2001-03, 2006 and 2008-09) and St. Stephen’s HS (1975, 1977, 1982, 1996, 1999, 2000 and 2004-05) are next with eight each.Note: Xavier School has been in the finals for the last nine seasons (2001-09), posting a 6-3 record.
- Most Recent Juniors title by the seven schools – Xavier (2009), Chiang Kai Shek (2007), St. Stephen’s HS (2005), Uno HS (1997), Hope Christian (1993), Grace Christian (1971) and St. Jude Catholic School (none).
- Only five times in Tiong Lian history has one school captured titles in the Aspirants Division and Juniors Division in the same season – Chiang Kai Shek (1991) and Xavier (2003, 2006, 2008 and 2009).
- The MMTLBA is the successor of the Greater Manila Filipino-Chinese Secondary School Basketball Association.
